WHAT TO BRING?
When targeting game fish on the Skeena River, we recommend using single and two-handed rods in the 7-9 weight range, with lengths from 9-13’. The preferred line of choice is a compact line with an interchangeable tip system, such as the RIO VERSI TIP II. The tips we typically use range between t-3 & t-14 and are 10-15 feet in length.
Given that we will be in the Coastal Rainforest, it's wise to always carry rain gear, sun-protective clothing, polarized sunglasses, and a hat, regardless of the time of year. The weather can be unpredictable.
The flies we use to target all species are intruder type patterns, nymphs, and even egg patterns in the later months.
Our leader of choice is Maxima Ultragreen in the 8-25lb range, as well as Segar blue label Fluorocarbon in 12lb and up.
When fly fishing in the Cariboo, a fly rod and line in the 4-6 weight range will be perfect. These should be 9-10’ in length with floating line and full sink as well.
We recommend bringing a hat, polarized sunglasses, bug spray, and rain gear. The spring and fall in BC's interior can bring all four seasons.
We target rainbow trout in the 2-15lb range using 6 lb fluorocarbon tippet on midge, damsel, leech, and dragonfly patterns in the spring through summer. In the fall, we use scuds and leeches, either fishing static under an indicator or stripped on intermediate or sinking lines.
